Pictures from Road Trip

This isn't going to be a regular blog post so much as a photo dump. Enjoy.

Those were all pictures from the Nevada desert. Unbelievable sense of space. Now we'll move on to the Snake River gorge in Idaho (we also visited a wildlife park here).

Yes, that is a parachuter

This old bear, named Corky, won't eat his breakfast in the mornings unless he gets two Hostess Twinkies

Finally, Big Sky country (Montana) and home to AB.

That's all for now, folks. See you next year.

Week 33: May 11

This week in orchestra we read the composition students' pieces, the orchestration students' pieces and some pieces for the conducting students. I find it very interesting to look at student works, and try to figure out what makes a good composition good and a bad one bad. To me there were three pieces that stood out - one by Justin Ralls, one by Anne Polyakov (a friend) and one by Nathan Campbell (who won the comp comp). Keep an eye out for these guys.

On Friday I went on an industrial caching expedition.

Can you see it? (it's a tiny grey tube in the middle)

Paint by number!!

Cherry trees in bloom

Yesterday Maddy and I went to the "slidey-hill" to celebrate our tough Western Civ final exam being over.

Here is a spectacular slide run

And here are some more pictures

Found this cool bridge

Almost caught the train in a shot....

Ummm....ok
Now this is hilarious.

This was going to be my last post, but actually I think I'm going to write one more in the middle of next week, because my Father and I are planning an awesome road trip back up to YYC, and I'm sure I'll have pictures to share from same.

Week 32: May the Fourth.....

....be with you.....

I ordered recordings of some concerts. First, though, I want to try an experiment. The two clips below were taken about 6 months apart. See if you can tell the difference.

This is Maddy and I playing viol last October

This is the viol class performing on April 16th

Conclusion: I spend way too much time practicing viol.
On with the links.

On Saturday I took a trip up Tank Hill, and also ventured into the Mt Sutro jungle.

Tank Hill park

Hm that looks suspicious

Knew it!

Climbed on these rocks

Falls so steeply

For some reason I started noticing all the pretty coloured flowers along the way. I know that it is snowing now in YYC, so maybe you'll appreciate the flower pictures.

Couple of other interesting shots on the way back

Guess what started playing in my head when I saw this?

Next week will be my final blog post of the year. I'm putting on a recital at Michael Lipnicki's, on June the 23rd at 7pm. Mary will play some stuff too, and I hope to have some other friends perform as well. If you want to play, please let me know. If you want to come and listen, I'd be happy to see you.
